Samsung SDI Technology: a high-quality battery

All our electric folding bikes are equipped with high-quality batteries and contain Samsung SDI technology. This technology was chosen when developing the e-bikes because Samsung is the market leader in specialized lithium-ion batteries. As a result, the battery lasts a long time. So long that we anticipate that under normal use, the battery will never need to be replaced. Even after years of charging, the capacity will remain around 90%.

As a nice extra, the batteries of the 200-L, 200-S, and 240-L also have a USB port. This allows you to use the FOLT to charge devices, such as your smartphone. It thus also serves as a huge power bank!

Full charge costs €0.09

From a sustainability perspective, we find it important that a foldable e-bike is economical and lasts long. We envision a future where everyone travels sustainably from A to B. This motivation is why we brought our e-bikes to market. We increasingly hear the questions: "How much electricity does charging actually cost?" and "How much do I pay for that?" We will explain that here.

Battery capacity

To determine how much a full battery costs in electricity, we need to know the battery's 'capacity'. You do this by making a simple calculation, namely voltage times charge. We measure capacity in Watt-hours (Wh), voltage in Volts (V), and charge in Ampere-hours (Ah).

The calculation

The FOLT 200 operates at a voltage of 36V and Ampere-hours 10.4 Ah. The calculation looks like this: 36 X 10.4 = 374.4 Wh (Watt-hours)

Let's assume you're not connected to the very cheapest electricity provider. You pay 25 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh). This is 1000 Wh. So for fully charging your FOLT battery, you pay 0.25 x 374.4 / 1000 = €0.09 cents.

You can cycle quite a distance with that!

Battery replacement costs

'Too expensive battery disappoints electric bike owner' headlined the Volkskrant. There has been quite some (negative) media coverage about the battery/batteries of electric (folding) bikes. These would be expensive, consumers would face a large expense, and the consumer platform Kassa even warned about poor batteries.

A quick search on Google also shows that a new battery for your electric (folding) bike can indeed be expensive. Almost as much as 60% of your bike's new value! Take for example a new small battery from the Gazelle brand with a price of 450 euros! Ridiculous, in our opinion.

With our electric folding bikes, you are guaranteed not to have these annoyances. A new battery is not expensive with us but is sold with a small margin.

A new battery with us doesn't cost €450 like other providers

We can offer the batteries at this fair price because we have made the choice not to use a possible extra battery as a "cash cow" for extra profit. The battery should be good, and if not, it should be replaceable for a reasonable amount.
