About us

FOLT was founded in 2018 and is part of Smart Mobility Innovations B.V. Under our FOLT brand, we produce foldable e-bikes. Due to their small storage requirements, they have found appeal with a broader audience who want to take their bikes everywhere, such as on train journeys and in their own vehicles like campers. We look forward to a bright future where more and more people can experience electric mobility.

About the team

Meet the team behind FOLT

  • Daan Hermsen

    Co-Founder

Daan Hermsen is co-owner of Folt. After his education at the University of Applied Sciences in Utrecht, he worked at various companies in internal communications. In 2015, the idea for the electric folding bike in the Netherlands began to take shape. After much research and information gathering, he started this company with his brother in 2018. It is his passion to improve the products every day and make customers cycle with a smile while simultaneously leading this fantastic team.

  • Lucas Hermsen

    Co-Founder

Lucas Hermsen is co-owner of Folt. He has a background in digital startups and strategy consulting and is responsible for non-daily affairs. Lucas deals with the website, parts procurement, marketing, administration, financing, and strategy. It is an enormously fun challenge for him to seek the combination between technology and market dynamics, where he investigates how Folt can improve its bikes and (digital) channels to be the best solution for customers in this growing market.

  • Gino

    Operations Manager

Gino is operations manager at Folt. He is originally an electrician and very skilled with technology and making things. He leads the entire team and ensures that the products always have the right quality. Both training and leading the team and integrating new technologies into the production line are challenges he takes in stride.

  • Mart

    Mechanic

Mart is a mechanic at Folt. After his training and work as a carpenter, it was time for a new challenge, and he joined as a mechanic. Through customer contact, the good atmosphere, and building a product, no day is the same. On weekends, Mart is active as a freelance furniture maker. For example, he makes beautiful wooden dining tables.

  • Joost

    Mechanic / Sales

Joost is a mechanic and sales employee at Folt. Besides his PABO education (teacher training), he works a few days a week at Folt. He alternates between helping Mart with production and guiding interested people who come for test rides and customers who come to pick up their orders. The alternation between customer contact and helping build bikes is a nice side job for him.

  • Florian

    Mechanic

Florian, a dedicated father and handy DIYer, adds his technical skills to our team. He is a full-time mechanic at Folt and contributes to production and quality control with an eye for detail. In his free time, Florian enjoys DIY projects in and around the house. Additionally, he loves sailing in nice weather when the wind permits.

  • Ferry

    Sales

With passion and enthusiasm, Ferry welcomes potential customers in Uden for a test ride. As manager of our location in North Brabant, he introduces them to our bikes. Thanks to his strong empathy, Ferry knows exactly what the customer needs and offers objective and tailored advice.

  • Heleen

    All-round

Heleen is doing a full-time midwifery study, but when she has a day off from school, she helps with preparing production and/or guiding customers/interested people. She also provides support such as checking and preparing parts. Her favorite part of the job is helping test the bikes, and she also enjoys cycling around in her free time.

  • Henk

    Mechanic

Henk is a mechanic at Folt. He contributes to production and quality control with an eye for detail and energetic drive. In his free time, Henk loves sports, such as running and cycling. You'll mainly find him on his racing bike, covering enormous distances in no time.

Sustainability

Sustainability at FOLT

Sustainability is a top priority at Folt. We believe it is important not only to build excellent bikes but also to consider the environment and nature. This is reflected in several concrete measures that Folt has implemented in recent years.

  • 100% Self-generated Electricity Thanks to various partnerships and investments, Folt has 46 solar panels on our flat roof. This allows us to power our four assembly halls and offices. The entire 1000m2 building gets its electricity completely from the sun!
  • Material Recycling We all want to reduce waste. Waste generated during assembly is separated where possible, collected by our partner PreZero among others, and processed into new raw materials. An example of this is that new styrofoam can be made from all our EPS material. Did you know that the mudguards of the Folt 200-S 200-L and 200-M are partly made from recycled plastic?
